Richard Hennessey, LCSW, has practiced mindfulness meditation for 15 years and has taught mindfulness for over 10 years. He first learned mindfulness from Stephen Levine in 1989 while preparing to do grief work with hospice and with people with HIV. Then in 1993, he trained to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the Center for Mindfulness, a program created by Jon Kabat-Zinn at U Mass Medical Center. He began teaching MBSR in the Boston area in 1994 and has taught mindfulness in Madison since 2000.

Richard has been in the field of social work for over 30 years. He currently has a private psychotherapy practice in Madison. In addition to mindfulness, Richard weaves into his spiritually oriented practice his knowledge from such teachers as Carl Jung, Anthony de Mello, Gerry Jampolsky, and Elizabeth Kubler Ross.
